Yosakoi

At first glance a highly traditional-looking dance, but although it's Awa Odori roots may be, it's actually a very modern invention. The Hokkaido incarnation came about through the actions of some now very rich students, and it's popularity has ballooned every year since.

Although the more mature and sedate team won this year, the younger teams are so full of energy and much more entertaining to watch. The 'Arabian Nights' themed team pictured here were especially dynamic, with at least 3 costume switches that were almost too fast for the eye to follow, blades a-plenty and much coolness.

I can't fault your photo coverage Ben, but DUDE! You need to post videos of this sort of stuff!

Good call, but really the only reason I'm able to keep a photo blog is because the camera's on my phone. No chance of action clips until phones get good enough to capture decent video...

Well your cameraphone isn't bad as it is at the moment. Is it a Sony Ericsson?

Sharp, Vodafone 903SH. Not recommended though, as the OS is unreliable and buggy.

I'm waiting on a phone/camera/music player that is both light enough and not crippled by awful DRM.

So was this a wushu/acrobatics style thing, or more of yer basic parade stuff twirling sticks?

It was dancing. Y'know, like a dance.

I got my first Sony Ericsson in January. I highly recommend them. Best phone OS I've ever used and cute as a button.

The most recent SEs are ace. I know a lot of people who've gotten a k800i. It's branded with the Sony "Cybershot" label and the picture quality completely makes having a separate camera pointless. I need them to do a clamshell Cybershot and that'll be my next phone.

The real flash and picture stabilising looks nice. Same resolution as my (year old) phone, but after you hit 3 megapixels the critical points become how well it shoots action scenes and how many functions of a real camera it possesses.

(That and the aforementioned music playing and weight issues)

Anyway, fuck it, I'm not even looking at phones until this one breaks!
